To be inducted, a nursing student must achieve academic excellence, rank in the top 35% of the graduating class, and demonstrate academic integrity and leadership potential. With the addition of this year’s class, there are 45 active members in the Omicron Rho chapter from Hartwick College. Currently, only seniors are inducted, but the recognition is undergoing a transition. Starting next year, only junior nursing students will be eligible for induction, which will allow them to be more active in the local chapter while still on campus.

Founded in 1922 by six nursing students, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) has more than 100,000 active members and 600 chapters at institutions of higher education and healthcare partners from Armenia, Australia and Botswana to Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom.
