WHERE WILL YOUR HARTWICK SOCIOLOGY DEGREE TAKE YOU?
A Career
Gabriella Wheeler ’20 is a social worker at the Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. A double major in sociology and criminal justice, she also minored in social work.
Graduate School
John Pino ’22 is getting his master’s in social work at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. A Hartwick Presidential Scholarship and John Kellogg Scholarship recipient, he served as a resident advisor and a mental health advocate. Pino also raised a future guide dog puppy for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind club.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
- Gain a broad foundation of knowledge through courses in social psychology, sociology of family, religion and society, socio-political movements, and sociology of medicine.
- Specialize in supporting families by adding a minor in social work.
- Apply your knowledge in real-world settings through a career-oriented internship.
- Develop and research your thesis to present at the Student Showcase, the New York State Sociology Society or the Eastern Sociological Society annual meetings. You might even get the chance to co-author a scholarly publication.
