From day one, you’re matched with a Success Coach who will be there to support you through all of the growth and exploration that happens during your first two years of college. They play a key role as you adjust to college life, helping you develop a strategy for success as you explore your personal and academic interests, and connect with campus resources.

Among all your dedicated Hartwick professors, you’ll have a designated Faculty Advisor who stays with you throughout college. Together, you will choose the best classes to advance your interests, navigate change, answer questions, and keep you on track as you complete your degree.

You’ll work one-on-one with a specialist in career guidance, someone who will offer practical advice tailored to your goals. They’ll help you identify research and internship opportunities, introducing you to alums and employers, and with applying to graduate schools and securing jobs.

In your junior and senior years, you’ll be connected with alumni mentors who will help you secure internship, service learning and job shadowing opportunities. Alumni mentors play a vital role in your success: from providing advice and perspective, to serving as a job shadow or internship host, and coaching you in pursuit of your goals.

Your First-Year Seminar (FYS) offers interdisciplinary courses intended to guide you through your academic experience and connect you with Hartwick’s resources.

In your Spring semester 21st Century Skills course, you’ll develop and use essential skills for college and future success.

You’ll experience a comprehensive wellness journey at Hartwick. Explore our scenic trails, join wellness activities and enroll in courses that prepare you to achieve and maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Hartwick’s career accelerator program takes you on a college-to-career readiness journey from first year to first destination—a job, graduate school or the next phase of your life.

Along with your classmates, you’ll explore career ideas, learn the art of networking, connect with inspiring alums, and chart your next steps.

Travel with your peers to major cities, visit businesses, and shadow alumni at their workplaces. You’ll gain insider knowledge and make meaningful connections for the future.

By the end of your sophomore year, it’s time to choose your major! This is also a good time to consider adding additional majors or minors to your degree plans.

The Junior Preview is a crucial meeting with your Success Coach to ensure you’re making the most of your college experience. During this session, you’ll reflect on your journey so far, evaluate your progress, and identify what matters most to you as you plan your next steps.

As you continue along your FlightPath, you’ll choose activities on and off campus that complement your academic pursuits, personal interests and career ambitions.

Gain real-world work experience to add to your growing resume. Travel off campus, get hands-on with clinicals, work in a research lab or build on your internships.

Use your summers to pursue opportunities that further expand your skills and applied expertise. For example, an internship abroad, a paid job that aligns with your major, or a service-learning experience.

Develop the career readiness skills that employers are looking for through capstone projects. You’lll create a digital product and deliver an oral presentation to professionally articulate your college experience.

Your resume now includes classes, clubs, leadership, teamwork and accolades, as well as the real-world work experiences you’ve gained on and off campus. Now you’re ready to show future employers a full picture of who you are and what you can do.

After graduation, keep in touch with peers and mentors through a robust alumni network. Hartwick alumni are encouraged to make personal and business connections based on their industry, geographic location or common interests.
