Summer Fun at the Yager Museum with Music and Programs for Kids
Hartwick College’s Yager Museum of Art & Culture has announced summer hours and programming for June and July.
To kick off its summer programming, the museum will hold two days of “Half Day Fun,” on June 25 and June 26 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Both afternoons will feature crafts and activities to celebrate the end of the school year.
In July, the museum will hold its popular “Crafternoons” program every Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Offered for children ages 5-12, the program is designed to allow children to explore their creativity in the setting of the Yager Museum galleries. Snacks will be available in the museum classroom to help power participants’ creativity. Kids may also explore the museum through a scavenger hunt. An adult must accompany children.
Each week, “Crafternoon” will feature a new theme to guide creativity, including:
- 7/3 – Flags and Maps
- 7/10 – Garden
- 7/17 – Stories
- 7/24 – Puppets
- 7/31 –Music.
Budding artists may also make any art they choose.
On Saturday, July 6, Wyatt Ambrose (guitar) and Evan Jagels (double bass) will perform “Sound
and Space,” an interpretation of the museum’s exhibitions through improvised collaboration and
solo performance. In addition to teaching at Hartwick College, Ambrose and Jagels frequently
perform together as two-thirds of Killdeer Trio.
The museum will also feature several exhibitions this summer, including:
- ‘No Child’s Play:’ Impressionist Paintings by Anna Richards Brewster
- Velocity and Position: the Human Figure in Motion and at Rest
- A Deep Dive in a Large Ocean: Tradition, Tourism, and Transformation in Micronesian Cultures
- Masterpieces of European and American Art: Hartwick College’s Art Treasure Room, a permanent exhibition of works ranging from the Italian Renaissance to 20th-century pieces by Rockwell Kent, Paul Manship, and Childe Hassam.
The museum will be open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through July 31 and closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
