Start your FlightPath by planning your course schedule.

Learn more before telling us what you want to study!

Review the following information about majors, courses, and academic planning:

Self-Service. This is home base for course planning, reviewing transfer credits (if applicable), Math Placement test and Writing Directed Self-Placement results and your degree plan.

Course offerings. You will have an opportunity to plan your top preferences in Self-Service while completing your Course Planning Guide, so be sure to review your options.

College Catalog. General education & major requirements, official academic policies. Not sure what courses you need for your major or for general education? Here’s where to look.

Once you’ve had a chance to review this information, it’s time for the next steps in the course planning process. Your first step is completing the Course Planning Guide (CPG). This will give us an idea of the courses you want to take. After you complete the CPG, it’s time to complete your Writing Directed Self-Placement questionnaire and Math Placement test. These are important to ensure you are in appropriate writing and math courses (if applicable). In the meantime please be sure to send any and all transfer credit to the Office of Admissions!

Help us make the best schedule for you!

The Course Planning Guide is a form that will walk you through planning your  schedule and sharing your academic interests and course preferences. You can access the Course Planning Guide through Self-Service, and you will need to follow along in Self-Service as you’re completing the guide. We recommend that you complete this form on a computer rather than a phone or tablet, as we will be asking you to switch between this tab and a Self-Service tab throughout the process. If you have trouble with access, or have forgotten your log in information, contact Information Technology at [email protected] or 607-431-HELP (4357).

The Directed Self-Placement form asks incoming students to reflect on past and current writing and reading skills and practices. The Writing Program will use your questionnaire responses, along with other relevant information from your academic history, to recommend an appropriate first-year writing course for you. The questionnaire can be found on our Course Placement page.

Online placement exams for math and language (as needed) help us make sure we are scheduling you for appropriate courses. Note that chemistry placements will be administered on campus during Orientation.

Have you completed courses elsewhere? Completed AP or CLEP exams? Have any other credit that is transferrable? Please be sure to have all transcripts sent to Hartwick. This will help us construct the best schedule possible! Click here for more information about transfer credit.
