Hartwick College Theatre Arts Presents ‘I and You’
The Hartwick College Theatre Arts Department presents a Senior Project production of “I and You,” written by Lauren Gunderson. The performance will run from October 23 – 26 at 7 p.m. in the Lab Theatre of Bresee Hall on the College campus. Admission is free.
The production is directed by theatre arts major Jessica Feyler ’20, designed by Maya Pomazal-Flanders ’20, and stage managed by Tobin Santoro ’21. The cast includes April Bolster ’23 as Caroline and Chesachi Emeh ’23 as Anthony.
“‘I and You’ takes place in the bedroom of Caroline, who is homebound due to her illness,” according to Playscript.com. “Her world is shaken up one afternoon when Anthony arrives unexpectedly at her door bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Caroline is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guard and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. ‘I and You’ is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.”
“By the close, Gunderson has guided us toward a sublime transfiguration that encompasses Leaves of Grass, John Coltrane, Jerry Lee Lewis, space and time, bodies and spirits, death and rebirth,” said The New Yorker.
