Hartwick Internship & Career EXPO Will Connect Students and Employers

September 19, 2018

Hartwick College’s True Blue Weekend 2018 is about more than reuniting with former classmates, reliving good times, and enjoying a barbeque or football game. It is also an opportunity for current Hartwick students to make important work connections and develop professional relationships.

More than 50 regional, national, and international employers will help kick off True Blue Weekend 2018 by offering students experiential work opportunities at Hartwick College’s Internship & Career EXPO 2018. The event will be held Thursday, October 4, from 1 – 3:30 p.m. in Lambros Arena, Binder Physical Education Center, on the College campus.

Sponsored by Springbrook, Cooperstown Dreams Park, Barrister and Mann LLC, and Allied Financial Partners, The Internship & Career EXPO serves as the College’s largest annual on-campus recruiting event. Hartwick alumni will be representing at least 10 hiring organizations this year.

“The EXPO provides the framework for Hartwick students to develop relationships and make connections as a way to pursue career-related experience,” said Internship Program Advisor Alison R. Dodge ’05, an EXPO co-organizer.

“We are very excited about the diverse array of opportunities that are available for our students this year,” said Internship and Career Planning Advisor Brittany Beach. “From museums to financial firms to the FBI, this year’s EXPO features many opportunities for students to explore their professional aspirations.”

Employers committed to attend include A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Albany Medical Center, Fenimore Art Museum/The Farmers’ Museum, Logowise, NYCM Insurance, Otsego Land Trust, The Student Conservation Association, and World Endeavors.

This year, organizers are also making it easier for students to quickly identify employers in their fields of interest; organizations will be assigned a color signifying one or more of the following areas:

  • Social Sciences (for students interested in psychology, anthropology, sociology, criminal justice, political science, and pre-law)
Arts (art, art history, theatre arts, music, and museum studies)
  • Business (business administration, economics, finance, accounting, and actuarial mathematics)
  • Natural & Environmental Sciences (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, geology, and environment, sustainability and society)
  • Health Professions (pre-med, public health, nursing, medical technology)
  • Globalism (global studies, French, Spanish)
  • Humanities (history, English, religious studies, philosophy, creative writing)
  • Technical (mathematics, computer science, physics)

Also at the EXPO, students will be able to have professional headshots taken by Hartwick alumnus Joshua Szot ’14 for use on their LinkedIn accounts. And in the days before the event, students are offered an opportunity to purchase personally branded business cards through Allie Ricci ’18 from Logowise to use when meeting with prospective employers.

The first 50 students to attend the EXPO will receive a promotional T-Shirt printed by Spectrum Designs, a business co-founded by Stella Spanakos ’78 that supports individuals with Autism lead productive and meaningful lives through the world of work.
